Surface Signs and Symptoms of Failed Veins One of ten
veins and vein capillaries is on the surface. With dilation these veins
become visible varicose veins and red 'spider' veins (or slightly larger and
darker 'reticular' veins). They are ugly and cause some pain. Dilated vein
capillaries at the ankle and instep are called corona phlebectasia, a sign of
probable failure in deeper veins above. And, the varicose veins are dangerous
they
increase your chances of dangerous deep vein clots. Varicose vein
procedures remove these surface spider, reticular, and varicose veins.
Deep Signs and Symptoms of Failed Veins Nine of ten
veins and capillaries are hidden, below the surface. As a consequence, many
people with bad varicose veins do not know that they have them. These also
dilate to become varicose veins inside the leg (9 of 10 varicose veins are
inside the leg, invisible!) These internal varicose veins cause aching,
throbbing, heaviness, painful, 'tired' legs that feel 'older' than the patient's
age. The internal dilated capillaries leak fluid, blood cells and protein, and
this causes leg and ankle swelling, burning, itching and discoloured skin, night
cramps and many restless leg symptoms. Varicose vein procedures
reverse the dilation of veins, stop the leakage from capillaries and allow the
legs to heal
Reasons for Vein Procedures The goal is to have
Younger Legs! - Healthier legs that look and feel younger. Together the dilation
and leakage caused by failure of vein valves, cause the legs to deteriorate.
Treatment stops and reverses that deterioration. Varicose vein procedures
stop the pain, swelling, skin problems, night cramps and secondary restless leg
symptoms.

"Secondary"
Restless Leg Symptoms |
| Summary: |
Vein valves fail, and this failure is often the
underlying cause of 'Restless Legs' symptoms. |
| Problem: |
Usually this is a missed diagnosis: Vein failure
is not considered as a diagnosis, and the patient is simply medicated without
adequate testing. |
Venous insufficiency, resulting from failed vein valves, is often the
underlying cause for night time, "secondary'' restless leg symptoms. "Primary"
restless leg syndrome (RLS) patients have similar, often identical symptoms as
patients with "Secondary" restless leg symptoms from peripheral
vascular disease (PVD). According to Dr. Mountcastle, when patients present
with restless leg symptoms, physicians often assume it is neurological "primary"
RLS, and they treat with very potent and expensive medications. Very often, they
do not investigate further to rule out the possibility of treatable venous
insufficiency as the underlying cause. These patients, unfortunately, are
seldom referred for a simple office diagnostic test - the standing venous
insufficiency ultrasound exam. Venous insufficiency is often not even
considered as a diagnosis. Even patients with other obvious clues that indicate
venous disease, including symptoms of leg pain, night cramps, or itching/burning
skin, and physical signs including spider veins, varicose veins, skin
discoloration, or swelling, are often offered only chronic medication and other
palliative care.
"A large percentage of people have vein problems, approximately 50% of
people over 55 years old! Most are not getting the simple evaluation and modern
treatments they need," says Dr. Mountcastle. "They suffer needlessly.
Simple in-office procedures to treat venous insufficiency will alleviate these
restless leg symptoms."
